CELBAN™ Background Information

The Canadian English Language Benchmark Assessment for Nurses (CELBAN™) is the first language assessment designed specifically for internationally-educated nurses.

The CELBAN™ is quickly being accepted by nursing licensing bodies across Canada.

The Centre for Canadian Language Benchmarks (CCLB) has contracted the Canadian English Language Assessment Services (CELAS) Centre to administer the CELBAN™ in Canada. To find out how to take the CELBAN™ go to CELBAN™ Registration Form.

Were you trained as a nurse in another country?

If you completed your nursing education in another country and you speak English as a second language, you may want to consider taking the CELBAN™. The CELBAN™ has been endorsed by the licensing bodies of Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses and Registered Psychiatric Nurses across Canada as an acceptable option to demonstrate your level of English language proficiency for licensure. The CELBAN™ will evaluate your proficiency level in all four skill areas (speaking, listening, writing and reading).
