What are people saying about CELBAN™?

Canadian Nurses Association

"Nurses need effective language/communication skills to provide safe and quality health services to the Canadian public. The Canadian Nurses Association (CNA), a federation of 11 provincial and territorial registered nurses associations, has heard from internationally educated nurses, employers and regulators that there is a need for an English language proficiency test specifically for nursing. CNA is very pleased to see that the Centre for Canadian Language Benchmarks (CCLB) has completed its extensive research and development work with respect to the Canadian English Language Benchmark Assessment for Nurses (CELBAN™) and commends CCLB on their work in this area. CNA has had a representative on the National Advisory Committee for CELBAN™ since 2002."

An Internationally Educated Nurse who took the CELBAN™

"Dear Sir/ Madam:

I would like to extend my gratitude to you for providing this special test for foreign nurses who would like to practice nursing in Canada. I had already tried another test six times but I was not rated more than 45. I lost my one year of effort and expense! Above all it consumed my emotion to a degree that I got discouraged and decided to give up and go back to my country in September. Before doing so I attended the CRNBC's information session on Sept.16th, when I first heard about CELBAN™. After I checked the web site for CELBAN™ , I got the idea that it could be the best test ever.

The live, warm and welcoming environment which was provided by the honorable supervisors eased my tension and the frustration, of not being rated as a generally effective speaker while I had almost never had a problem speaking with nearly ten native Canadians who I was in touch with almost every day, and finally helped me pass the test. Even my strenghts and weaknesses are incredibly precise and I do accept them wholeheartedly.

I could write pages and pages to emphasize on the degree my thankfulness for CELBAN™, if time permitted. In one word I regained my lost confidence and courage and I owe this to CELBAN™.

I chose not to send transcript until I contact the CELAS Center. Now I would like you send it to the CRNBC as soon as possible please.

Yours sincerely"
